Mysteries
of Oceans! |
Holy Qur'an
24/40 |
I wish all the viewers peace, tranquility, harmony, prosperity and Salaams. The same is said in Arabic: Asalamoalekum Wa Rehmatullahi Wa Barakatohu. |
The exchange of this traditional Salaam is an exchange of reassurance among the persons that they harbor in their hearts, good wishes and respect for all. In its elaboration, we pray to the LORD of the Universe to shower HIS Blessings and Bounties on the mankind in general. May the CREATOR and SUSTAINER of the Universe, guide all human beings to the right path! Aameen! |
Now we take recourse to the Last Book of the LORD of humanity to reform and develop our actions, emotions and deeds as endorsed by our CREATOR in HIS Book of Guidance. This divine guidance from the Qur’an the final revelation It will not only make our life worthwhile on this earth, but it also guarantees a grand reception and eternal happiness in the Hereafter. Professing and testifying the Oneness of our LORD, we strive for purification and perfection of our own life by emulating the character of the Last Messenger, Mohammed (s.a.w.s) who is an ideal role model for entire humanity. |
All life on earth appears to be greatly dependent on light. From the tiniest bacterium to the largest tree, all the molecules, structures, cells, and processes of life, need the input of energy before they can be formed or carried out. Building a protein, synthesizing a DNA molecule, or even giving a smile, all need energy before they can happen, and the source of this energy is light. |
Without the energy traveling, as light from the Sun every day, this planet earth would quickly become a cold, hard, lifeless lump of rock drifting aimlessly through the Universe. It is only the warming rays of the Sun that make it possible for the phenomena we call life to exist here. Without light, and the energy it carries, our planet would be a dead as all the rest of the planets in our solar system. Humans and other creatures also use light for their survival. Light causes Man to perceive, act and respond accordingly. Life without light would be dangerous to live. Without light there is no coordination of senses, no vision, hence no imagination, no perception of beauty, colors or wonders of nature!!! |
Life without light is difficult to imagine, it is as if taking away the very life out of life. Darkness is empty. It is as if darkness takes away every thing around us even though the things actually exist. Light conveys hope and darkness conveys doom. |
A verse from the Holy Qur’an which talks about darkness appears in chapter 24/40 meaning The Light. I seek the help of ALMIGHTY GOD in conveying the message and I pray to HIM to grant me refuge from all sorts of evil impulses in my attempt. |

I am aware that it is not humanly possible to render an exact translation of the heavenly Arabic just recited but if we were to try and come closer to its meaning in English it could be translated like this, |
“(Those who deny the ultimate realities,) the result of their vague thoughts and deeds are like the layer upon layers of darkness of the ocean, overcastting waves topped by waves, yet more dark with black clouds above it. Depths of darkness, one above another, so much so that, when one stretches out his hand, he cannot even see it. If ALLAH does not provide light to someone, no light whatever has he!” |
The verses talk about the darkness in the depth of Oceans and waves above waves meaning layers of waves below the apparent surface of the Ocean we can perceive. Scientists have only now been able to confirm, with the help of modern equipments that there is darkness under the oceans. Humans are unable to dive unaided underwater for more than 20 to 30 metres, and cannot survive in the deep oceanic regions at a depth of more than 200 metres. This layered darkness in a deep ocean is the result of two causes: |
As we learnt in school, light ray is composed of seven colors. These seven colors are Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. The light ray undergoes refraction when it hits water. The upper 10 to 15 metres of water absorb the red color. Therefore if a diver is 25 metres under water and gets wounded, he would not be able to see the red color of his blood, because the red color does not reach this depth. Similarly orange rays are absorbed at 30 to 50 metres; and so on up to around 200 mts. Due to successive disappearance of color, one layer after another, the ocean progressively becomes darker. So much so that below a depth of 1000 metres there is complete darkness. Even the fish in the depths of the ocean cannot see; their only source of light is from their own bodies. |
2 .The rays of the Sun are absorbed by clouds which in turn scatter light rays thus causing a layer of darkness under the clouds. The waves reflect light and cause darkness. Therefore the ocean has two parts. The surface characterized by light and warmth and the depth characterized by darkness. The surface is further separated from the deep part of the ocean by waves. The Qur’an rightly mentions: |
“… layer upon layers of darkness of the ocean, overcastting waves topped by waves, yet more dark with black clouds above it. Depths of darkness, one above another ….” |
Waves topped by waves signify internal waves. These internal waves in the "deep ocean" have been recognized only in the past four decades ago with the help of remote sensing from space platforms and submarines. Further it has been only recently discovered that there are internal waves which "occur on density interfaces between layers of different densities. The internal waves cover the deep waters of seas and oceans because the deep waters have a higher density than the waters above them. Internal waves act like surface waves. They can also break just like surface waves. Internal waves cannot be seen by the human eye, but they can be detected by studying temperature or salinity changes at a given location. |
Fourteen hundred years ago, a normal human being could not explain this phenomenon in so much detail. Thus the information must have come from a Supernatural Source. This Supernatural Source has to be the same that created and maintains the Universe. |
Not a better and lovelier picture can be drawn as this one pertaining to the oceans containing incredible layers of darkness one above the other and topped by clouds. Ones own hand, a sure reality of Man’s body which Man knows that it exists, ceases to be perceived without light in the depths of the oceans. Similar is the case of Man’s perception of the facts of life. Without Divine Light of Guidance as received from the Qur’an, life of this world is like being in darkness inspite of having physical light. Without Divine Light from the CREATOR it is not possible to even distinguish right from wrong even if they are so apparent. GOD ALMIGHTY has given Divine Light in the form of Guidance for Man’s soul the very depth of his being. Just as the CREATOR has Created Man. HE has also provided a means to help live this life, a way to ease his journey of life and lead him to his final destination. |
“…. Indeed there has come unto you from ALLAH a Divine Light and a BOOK having clear statements. By which ALLAH shows the path of salvation to all who want to seek HIS Pleasure. And brings them out of the depths of darkness into the light, and guides them onto a straight way.” |
Chapter 76/3: |
“Verily, WE have shown Man the way: (and it rests with him to prove himself) either grateful or ungrateful.” |
The Holy Qur’an revealed upon Prophet Mohammed is the Word of GOD ALMIGHTY. Its subject is Man - to tell him what is really good for him and what is bad for him. Its central theme converges on the fact that in the realm of beliefs and some eternal truths, Man has misled himself by following his desires, conjectures and conclusions based on superficial observation and that the Right Path is the one which GOD ALMIGHTY revealed to Man at the time of his creation. The same path has been pointed out to him again and again by the Prophetic Emissaries in all ages. The main purpose of the Qur'an is to invite Man to return to the path of Guidance, the correct way of life. The brevity of expression, the conciseness, attains such a striking clearness that men of ordinary intelligence can understand the Qur'an without difficulty. It has to be remembered that the narrative content of the Qur'an depicts all the vicissitudes of the soul from the time of creation to that of resurrection of Man and the World beyond. The Qur'an is like a picture of everything the human brain can feel and think, and it is by this means that GOD ALMIGHTY dissipates human disquiet, infusing into the believer silence, serenity and peace. And at the same time there is such a profundity, flexibility, suggestiveness and radiance in the Qur’an that it serves as the basis of the principles and rules in every walk, every situation and every field of Man’s life. |
We see that Man in spite of tremendous advancements in science is in search for peace, salvation, truth and answers to questions that have baffled me from time immemorial we find him grooping in the dark under the pressure of his modern life and stumbling from a so called Goodman to any person or even an inanimate object surround by a myth. The Qur’an holds answers to all his questions. The distinctive approach of the Qur'an is that its instructions are aimed at the general welfare of the Mankind, and are based on the possibilities within his reach. The purpose of its revelation is said in the Holy Qur'an, chapter 14/1 |
“Alif. Lam. Ra. - A Divine BOOK is this - a Revelation which WE have bestowed upon you from on high, so that you may bring forth all Mankind, from darkness unto light, by their SUSTAINER's leave, onto the way that leads to the ALMIGHTY, the ONE to Whom all Praise is due.” |
Every single word of the Qur’an speaks volumes about the CREATOR, HIS Planning, Great Wisdom in providing Man The Holy Qur’an in the form of written word. It is not the purpose of the Qur'an to teach science or to give scientific explanations of the forces of Nature. The purpose of these indications is to urge Man to ponder over the creation, to study physical laws using his intellect and to draw his attention (to his own advantage) to the might and wisdom of the CREATOR. |
GOD ALMIGHTY Who has Created Universe and all that exists is very well aware of HIS Creation. Just as HE is aware of the depth of the Oceans, HE is very well aware of all that conspires within the depth of Man’s heart. HE informs us in Chapter 67/13 & 14: |
“And O mankind, whether you hide your words or make it known, indeed The LORD has full knowledge of the secrets of your hearts. How could it be that HE Who has Created, should not know!! HE Alone is unfathomable in HIS Wisdom, all-aware!” |
Every act committed or omitted, every word uttered and very thought that transpires in very depths of Man’s psyche is known to GOD. The Qur’an is a reminder unto mankind that Man is answerable to his CREATOR for his deeds in this worldly life and he will be judged on The Final Day according to this. It totally rests on him what conduct and attitude he chooses for himself. |
Perception is not limited to physical perception. It is much beyond that. If one is confronted with the truth and fails to perceive it, accept it and change his ways according to it he is indeed blind. |
Chapter 22/46: |
“Have they not traveled around the earth, so they may acquire hearts to reason with, or ears to listen with!! It is not the eye-sight which is blind, but blind have become the hearts that are in their breasts!” |
Every object around us, every event that occurs around us, every thing that we study about be it science, oceanography, geology, cosmology, even history every thing hold lessons for us to learn |
ALMIGHTY GOD asks the Prophet Mohammed to convey to entire Mankind in Chapter 13/16: |
“(O Prophet) ask mankind: ‘Who is the SUSTAINER of the heavens and the earth’? (They will not be able to reply spontaneously, so) you declare: ‘The ALMIGHTY GOD’.
Then ask ‘Why do you take for protectors other then ALMIGHTY GOD, who have no power to do good, or avert harm from their own selves?
Then ask: “Can the blind and the seeing be deemed equal?
Or Can the depths of darkness and the light be deemed equal?
Or Do they believe that there are other divine powers along with GOD ALMIGHTY, and do they also have power to create as ALLAH creates, so that this act of creation appears to them similar?
Announce that GOD ALMIGHTY Alone is the CREATOR of all the things and HE is the One Who holds absolute sway aver all that exists.” |
It is indeed apparent that there is only one single being, the CREATOR who has created every things and sustains it every moment. This omnipotence, omniscience can never be a quality of a created being. To hold any created being as equal to GOD ALMIGHTY or to call upon any other that GOD to answer our prayers is an act that defies common sense. Knowledge should make us perceive this and recognize the truth. It is said in chapter 34/6: |
“And those who are endowed with knowledge can notice that the Revelation sent down to you, O Prophet from your LORD is the Truth; and that it guides people to the path of the Exalted, Worthy of all Praise.” |
I pray to the CREATOR to help us perceive the truth. Oh our CREATOR helps us perceive the truth as it is and False hood as it is …….. |
Thank you very much, GOD Bless you |
