TOBACCO

Concluding it all, my opinion on all such matters is. No body on this earth should provide his opinion as ‘Haraam or Halaal’ unless he is putting forward any verse of Holy Qur’an or any categorical Hadees from the authentic sources. It is all the matter of ALLAH and HIS Rasool (s.a.w.s) to declare Haraam or Halaal and they had done it until the last hour for the mankind. Hence my earnest requast to one and all is, that we have to follow the commandments of these Ayah and above referred Ahadees and never term those things not described categorically in the Quran and Hadees as ‘Haraam or Halaal’. It is on the liking or disliking of a person to use anything, but he cannot define it ‘Haraam’ from his own. To define the things from our own is a great sin according to these Ayahs and Ahadees and one may face the wrath of ALLAH on the Judgment Day for doing so.

Now a days our ill-informed Muftis give their authoritative opinion about anything without the reference of any Ayat or any Hadees. This is the root cause of all such mockeries on Islam and Muslims. Our Deen has now become a laughing stuff due to these people. At different times in history, they gave Fatwas that using loud speakers is Haraam; putting money in banks/post offices is Haraam, (actually, to earn interest or usury is Haraam). Services in banks or post offices was also declared by them as Haraam. Family planning is Haraam. Insurance is Haraam. Photography is Haraam. And freshly TV is Haraam. If you want to see what our Muftis had prepared for the world, you may read a book, “World of Fatwas” written by Mr. Arun Shourie. It is available in book shops in India and all over the world.

Tobacco consumption is injurious to health, no doubt. One should be cautious about his health and avoid consuming tobacco. But he can not declare it as 'Haraam'. He can personally control / stop it’s consumption due to such reasons. But if some one says it 'Haraam', it is against the injunctions of Holy Qur'an.

To close this chapter, we all know that exhaust of all the vehicles is injurious to health. In a scientific survey, they say that in metros, every person inhales enough CO2 (carbon di oxide) gas daily which is equivalent to smoking 20 cigarettes. On such grounds, none can opine that plying of petroleum vehicles are Haraam! We have searched out the means to control it. To say something Haraam which is not defined in the Qur'an and Hadees is very great sin, I assume.
