Thus while the world went its way, the Arabs continued
to grovel and grope in the abyss of their ignorance
and isolation. Rightfully, this period of their history
is referred to as 'Jahiliyat' or the era of ignorance.

But
then, as the sixth century was drawing to a close,
a little orphan boy was growing up in a dusty village
called Mecca, a settlement of 12000 souls, in a remote
corner of Arabia. When he grew to manhood, he would
unite his people into the strongest nation in the
world, invincible in war. He would educate them, rid
them of superstitions and give them laws. He would
teach them civilized behavior and above all guide
them into worshiping a single God, who is all-powerful
and yet Most Merciful (Rehman), Most Compassionate
(Rahim) and Most forgiving (Ghafoor).

In
the years to come the world would come to know him
as Muhammad Rasulallah (SWS) It is a respectful and
affectionate convention to add these words appearing
in brackets -SWS- whenever the name Muhammad appears
with reference to the Prophet. The words "Sal
Allah o alaihe wa sallam" mean, "May peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him" - Muhammad
the messenger of Allah.
