A
very interesting thing is worth to disclose
here that the Jews and the Christians are charged
in the verse in question "….and
do not follow the religion of truth which ALLAH
has enjoined upon them…" This
is a call to them to establish their own religion
according to the Books of The GOD they have
with them. In support of this point, there are
clear injunctions to them in The Qur’an
in Chapter 5 Verse 47:
"…
And let the followers of the Gospel judge
in accordance with what ALLAH has revealed
therein; for they who do not judge in
the light of what ALLAH has bestowed from
on high, it is indeed they who are truly
iniquitous."
And for the Jews, there is a very lengthy
verse with heavy praises for the Torah.
"Verily
WE bestowed from on high the Torah,
in which there is guidance and divine
light …. And they who do not
judge in accordance with what ALLAH
has bestowed from on high (the Torah),
indeed they are the deniers of the
truth."
So summarily, Jizyah is related to those
People of the Book who are citizen of the land
ruled by the Qur’anic code, do not believe
in the oneness of GOD, nor are conscious about
the accountability on the Day of Judgment, do
not treat forbidden things as forbidden and do
not act according to their scriptures, the Torah,
the Gospel and the Psalms. Injunction in the verse
is to fight with them, not to eliminate them fully.
And if they establish their religion faithfully,
there will be no war nor they have to pay Jizyah.
