QUR'AN REPLIES TO OBJECTIONS

The Prophet (s.a.w.s) leads the faithfuls with exemplary courage and determination. He is a person who has never got the formal education during his forty plus thirteen years of age, nor ever enjoyed the luxuries of life, nor led the community on social or political fronts. He has never been part of any warring army, nor ever got any formal training in the matters of warfare. The history bears witness that he was victorious in the battlefields. This un-lettered man was getting remarkable success on all fronts. But no less remarkable was his success on the ideological front. And within a short span of 50 years after his departure, almost half of the population in Asia and Africa, though he never visited these places in his lifetime, had responded to his clarion call and embraced the noble faith.

Now it is a different story that the large influx of people belonging to various races and civilization, speaking different languages, practicing divergent religions, into the fold of Islam could not do real justice with the spirit of their new-found faith. And the vested interest of the society exploited the situation to meet their selfish motives. And so with successful march of Islam in the first century, we find civil wars, ethnic hostilities and political upheavals in later times. In spite all these undesirable factors, if a man has an urge to receive the Message of his Master, it is still available in the original form.

Let us now make an objective analysis of the objections raised over some Qur'anic verses.

We shall direct our efforts in exploring the original words of The Almighty in the light of human intellect, human values and social ethics and of course, logic and reasoning. As we have already clarified the matter in respect of some of these verses. we shall now only deal with those verses which have not been discussed by us in other articles.

Objection 1: It is on Chapter 4 Verse 101, the translation follows:

"And when you go forth to war, you will enter no sin by shortening your prayers if you have reason to fear that those who are bent on denying the truth might suddenly fall upon you: verily those who deny the truth are your open foes."

The verse and its simple translation make the situation quite clear. The enemy has reacted violently to a peaceful call. The Muslims after passing through an unabated persecution had no other option but to migrate. The deniers of truth, overblown by their arrogance are not in a mood to give peace a chance and attack with all their might. The defense, on the part of the believers, is imperative. In this verse the faithfuls are assured that there is no harm or sin in curtailing their prayer if they apprehend any swift attack from the sly enemy soldiers. Is it something immoral? There is no instruction to the believer to be violent. Of course, we hold no brief for a pointless translation or interpretation of any Muslim or non-Muslim scholar.

Objection 2: It is on Chapter 4 Verse 56, the translation follows:

"Verily those who are bent on denying the truth of OUR messages WE shall cause them to endure hell-fire. Whenever their skins are burnt off - WE shall replace them with new skins, so that they may taste suffering in full. Verily ALLAH is Almighty, Wise"
Every man living on this Earth is indebted to his Creator for every breath and every moment of his life. Still he denies the Ultimate Truth, ignores the innumerable signs of Almighty GOD, and defying all HIS commands, leads a seditious life. Here there is a warning from his Master that such disbelievers shall bear the punishment of their misdeeds in the hereafter. Such ungrateful person, no matter he is wealthy or poor, black or white, man or woman, American or African, Arabian or Indian, Muslim or non-Muslim, is warned here by his Lord. There is no order for the Muslims or for anybody to take any action in this case. It is the matter of the Almighty Alone. If some Muslims misinterpreting this verse want to take over the task from Almighty GOD and appoint themselves as executors, they must be stopped and made aware of the real meaning of the verse.
