QUR'AN
REPLIES TO OBJECTIONS

Objection
19:
It is on Chapter 9 Verse 14, the translation
follows.
"Hence
fight against them! ALLAH will chastise
them by your hands, and will bring
disgrace upon them, and will succor
you against them; and HE will soothe
the bosoms of those who believe."
A very important question arises here that ‘whom
to fight’? The preceding verse 13 tells
us who they are, the translation follows:
"Will
you not fight folk who have violated their
trust and intended to exile the Messenger
and they attacked you first! Are you afraid
of them? You aught to be even more afraid
of ALLAH if you are truly believers"
Is
it injustice to allow the faithfuls
to fight against an adversary that
is characterless, oppressive, breaches
trust and violates treaties? They
indulged in incessant torture and
persecution of the faithfuls so much
so that they had to migrate from the
homeland. How long The Master of the
Universe will allow them to torture
another section of HIS creatures?
Here HE is commanding the persecuted
group of HIS creatures, after their
migration, to fight with such aggressors.
If some Muslims happen to use this
verse out of context to carry out
violent activities, they are likely
to be punished by GOD in this very
world and the severity of punishment
in the hereafter is beyond human imagination.
How
The Most Gracious ALLAH, who is
the CREATOR of all the humanity,
will allow a section of some of
HIS creatures to harm others without
reason? Following verses are enough
proof that the Qur’an is from
the LORD of not only Muslims, but
of humanity.
"O
those who have attained to faith,
be ever steadfast in your devotion
to ALLAH bearing witness to the
truth in all equity, and never
let hatred of anyone lead you
into the sin of deviating from
justice. Be just, this is closest
to being God-conscious. And remain
conscious of ALLAH, verily ALLAH
is aware of all that you do."
Another
quotation from Chapter 60 Verse
8 is also proving HIS Mercy.
"As
for such of the unbelievers who
do not fight against you on account
of your faith, and neither drive
you forth from your homelands,
ALLAH does not forbid you to be
kind with them and to behave towards
them with full equity. Verily
ALLAH loves those who act equitably."

From
the above analysis, a fair conclusion would be that
the Qur’an does not incite anyone to violence
nor does it exhort or encourage any acts which could
be remotely termed evil, inhuman or unethical in the
widest sense. The verses relating to war and conflict
are very much in tune with the complete guidance that
the Qur’an provides to man. Man is created ambitious
and the qualities of envy and lust with which he is
imbued are bound to create situations of conflict.
What is ordained in the Qur’an are restraining
and limiting factors for the God-conscious when they
are confronted with oppressors and aggressors and
at the same time upholding and appreciating the qualities
of nobility and steadfastness in the face of adversity.
The
other allegations against the Creator’s Writ
are that it threatens with harsh and cruel punishment
to be meted out in the hereafter to the corrupt
and evil doers. To a reasonable man, this would
be deterrence purely in his interest for his abstinence
from evil will earn him eternal bliss!
The
Qur’an is the only CREDIBLE communication
from the Creator and the Sustainer of all that exists,
to the mankind. Therefore, it is in the interest
of entire humanity that it should be studied and
researched and God-willing, this world of ours would
be a safer and better place to live in!
Finally,
the oft repeated prayer by the Holy Prophet, “O
Lord, show me righteousness as it is, and help me
to recognize it, and hold fast onto it. And show
me evil as it is, and help me keep distance from
it. And show me things as they are.” (Aameen)
